Global support for Éric Abidal

Social networks are filled with messages of support for the French player. The label #AnimsAbidal, proposed by Barça, became the worldwide 'trending topic' within hours.


Forgetting colours or disputes, the football world has come together to support the FC Barcelona player, Eric Abidal, following the news that he was diagnosed with a tumor on his liver and will have to undergo surgery . Supporters, Barça players and players from other teams as well, and personalities from different fields, have been expressing their affection for Abidal in the last few hours.

To bring together these sentiments, the Club proposed using Twitter with the 'hashtag' #animsAbidal to collect all the messages of support, which will be sent to Abidal. Within hours, this label has become one of the most used worldwide, bringing together more than 0.7% of worldwide traffic on this network. On Facebook, on the other hand, the Abidal news has led to more than 10,000 messages of support in less than 10 hours. 

Support from teammates and rivals 

After the announcement, several of the player’s teammates gave their support to Abidal via Twitter. Puyol, Piqué, Iniesta, Jeffren, and Adriano posted messages on their social networks, as did the President of FC Barcelona, Sandro Rosell, who connected with the tag #animsAbidal and so did Barça B manager, Luis Enrique. 

Players from other teams, like Sergio Agüero, Cesc Fábregas, David de Gea, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jack Wilshere, Kaka and Diego Forlan also joined the initiative of internet users worldwide.
